A Message from the Office

As we transition out of winter and into spring, we are mindful of both the wet and muddy conditions of the school field, and of the importance of letting the new growth of grass root properly so that students have a safe place to play once the field dries out.

Until the school field conditions are appropriate for active play, students will continue to have access to the tarmac and paved areas during recesses.  Students are encouraged to explore active games (e.g., Tag, Octopus, etc.) that do not require hard equipment for the short period of time required for the field to become safe.

Keeping Our Students Safe

Allergies:

Please make sure snack and lunch items are nut-free, peanut-free, and sesame-free.  Please ensure items dropped off for lunch from eateries are also free of these items (e.g., no sesame on McDonalds burger buns).

Children with Epi-pens need to carry them throughout the day. Families needing support accessing pouches/other materials are invited to contact the school.

Bussing:

Families of students taking the bus are reminded that late bus reports are issued through the school transportation portal if the bus is expected to be more than 10 minutes late. Please check this report if wondering whether a bus is on time.

Reminders

Student Absences need to be communicated to the office as soon as possible via Edsby or by calling the school at 905-591-3800. The school needs to be notified of all absences, including those due to inclement weather and/or bus cancellations.

If picking up students during the day (e.g., for medical appointments, etc.), please try to do so outside the recess and lunch times.

Recess: 11:10am - 11:40am            Lunch: 1:00pm - 2:00pm

Address/Phone Number Changes: Please notify the office by email (barbara.reid@yrdsb.ca) if your address, phone number, or email contact information has changed. Up-to-date information helps us in our communication with families.

Parking Lot:  Please continue to follow procedures established for Pick-Up and Drop-Off as these help us maintain safety and minimize congestion.  Students who are able to walk all the way or partway to school are encouraged to do so.

Standing in the Doorway: A Journey Through History and Culture

Our school library is transforming into a vibrant hub of history and heritage!

From April 14 to May 6, we are incredibly proud to host the powerful travelling exhibition, Standing in the Doorway: Lived Histories & Experiences of the Chinese Community (縈繞中華文化華人社區歷史和生活展覽).

This exhibition features nine beautifully designed pop-up banners that tell the rich, lived stories of the Chinese community. To ensure this experience is accessible to all our learners, the displays are fully translated into English, French, Simplified Chinese, and Traditional Chinese. Students will also have the chance to get hands-on with the culture through interactive stations featuring Chinese Calligraphy, Paper Cutting, Paper Folding, and Animal Mah-Jong.

Family Engagement Opportunities

We are excited to invite BRPS families to experience this exhibition firsthand! The library will be open for families to explore the displays and interactive stations during our upcoming evening events:

  • School Council Meeting: Wednesday, April 29 - 7pm
  • Primary Concert: Thursday, April 30

We look forward to celebrating the diverse roots that shape our community history with you!
